I'll pm you the the rulebook. If you flip over to pgs 62-67 you'll see the advances available for your character. There are basically 3 different types of advances: Skills, Talents, and Characteristic. Skills and Talents simply give you new abilities, while a characteristic advance increases your stat in that particular trait. When you purchase an upgrade for a characteristic, you spend the xp cost listed in 'simple' if its your first advance in that stat, 'intermediate' if its your second advance in the stat, and so on. Note that all characteristic advances only increase your stat by 5, regardless of how much xp you spend.
